Beware the climate of conformity

"To reduce modern climate change to one variable, CO2, or a small proportion of one variable - human-induced CO2 - is not science. To try to predict the future based on just one variable (CO2) in extraordinarily complex natural systems is folly. Yet when astronomers have the temerity to show that climate is driven by solar activities rather than CO2 emissions, they are dismissed as dinosaurs undertaking the methods of old-fashioned science."

Over time, the history of CO2 content in the atmosphere has been far higher than at present for most of time. Atmospheric CO2 follows temperature rise. It does not create a temperature rise. CO2 is not a pollutant. Global warming and a high CO2 content bring prosperity and longer life.

"Soviet scientists on board an icebreaker drifting just 300 miles from the North Pole have concluded that the world is getting hotter.

Warm-water fish are appearing in increasing numbers in Arctic seas as temperatures have risen, melting the ice caps.

The Russian explorers believe that very soon ships will be able to sail right across the Pole."

This news will be welcomed by ‘global warming’ campaigners - except that it first appeared on December 12, 1938...

The Soviet scientists also concluded that the warmer weather was almost certainly down to the rays of the sun.

And they added it would be rash to prophesy the duration of these higher temperatures, since the Ice Age was followed immediately by a period of much hotter summers than they were experiencing in the Thirties - the warmest decade of the 20th century, as it turned out.

A few short years later, by 1947, the ice caps were restored to their former glory and Britain experienced one of the harshest winters on record, lasting well into March.

We’re going through another one this year. November was the coldest for three decades...

Irony Alert

Egyptian reporter throws shoe at Bush during press conference(apparently, in Arab culture this is the rough equivalent to flipping someone off). Do you see the irony? This Egyptian man is apparently upset that Bush liberated a country from Saddam Hussein, a ruler who would have had killed for shoe throwing.

Ingratitude is ugly. So is blind hatred.

Unforseen Consequences

The Lord works in mysterious ways. In scripture and throughout history, we see that the Lord will often use awful events to further His purposes. An example, is the amount of serving people have the opportunity to do when disasters strike. During disasters communities will often bind together to help each other, relationships are strengthened, and people get a better perspective about what this life is all about.

Similarly, I think the backlash the LDS Church is experiencing for its support of Prop 8 has some positive unforeseen consequences.

Case in point, Dennis Prager's take on the situation:

"We are all Mormons" is now my motto… If there had been prior to this a lot of reservations among evangelicals about Mormons, because of their theological differences, I want you to know that those of you who are screaming obscenities in front of Mormon churches now you have brought together evangelicals, Catholics, and Mormons, as never before in history. Your anger and hatred and obscenities have succeeded in doing what nothing else could quite do before. For all we know you have made a [Mitt] Romney presidency possible. The cynical part of me wants you to continue your demonstrations because it only speaks to the incivility of your cause… And [then] that there is no condemnation of you among those who agree with you...

I view this backlash against the Church as just a fulfillment of this prophecy that Joseph Smith made many years ago:

The Standard of Truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing. Persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame. But the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and dependent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, until the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the Great Jehovah will say, 'The work is done."

In the Face of Hatred

An LDS LAPD looks at the temple protests in California. A very interesting read.

"In the Bureau command post there was a large screen television displaying scenes from the protest outside the Los Angeles temple. Imagine my surprise, when angry protestors began rushing the closed temple gates, and I heard an officer in the command post say, 'I hope they burn that place to the ground.'"
